Opposition Sam Rainsy party's (SRP) leader who was self-exiled in France a year ago will return to Cambodia this Friday.
There will be a ceremony to welcome this leader from hundreds of activists, say opposition party high ranking officials.
Mr. Sam Rainsy, and Mr. Chea Channy of the SRP were being pardoned by King Sihamoni with Prime Minister Hun Sen's appeal on Sunday.
This act opens way for Mr. Sam Rainsy to return and he will receive his parliamentary immunity, with Mr. Cheam Channy and Mr. Chea Poch also of SRP.
Amnesty International, the U.S. and EU welcome this move saying it is a step toward national unification.
SRP's general secretary Eng Chhay Eang says Wednesday that SRP will organize a rally to welcome its leader from party supporters to SRP high level officials, greeting Mr. Sam Rainsy from the airport to the SRP headquarters.
