Sam Rainsy Party Remains United

The opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) legislators allege that the party remains united despite the fact that their leader, Mr. Sam Rainsy, is currently in exile abroad.

Mr. Sam Rainsy fled Cambodia in a hurry after the members of parliament stripped his immunity, along with SRP legislators Chea Poch, and Cheam Channy on February 3rd.

Mr. Sam Rainsy originally planned to return to Cambodia at the end of September but postponed his trip because the association of higher education institute, the universities deans, and the royal school of law and economics plan to have a demonstration against him.

The Phnom Penh court Tuesday issued a warrant for the police to bring Mr. Sam Rainsy to court to answer his charges that FUNCINPEC president Prince Norodom Ranariddh, received millions of dollars in bribes and an airplane in exchange for the formation of a coalition government with the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) led by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

SRP legislator Eng Chhay Eang said that SRP' popularity is not diminished. SRP member of parliament Keo Remy said that other parties have tried to buy some of SRP legislators, but so far no one from the Sam Rainsy Party has left the party.
