CPP high-ranking official Monday supports Prince Norodom Ranaridh and Prime Minister Hun Sen's new campaign election strategy to avoid mudslinging and criticizing each other for political stability and development.
First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and CPP's Honorary President, Heng Samrin, told reporters at the Assembly that if the CPP and Funcinpec do not attack each other in the next election campaign, and try to find means to show their achievements, it will bring benefit to the parties, and get the people's support. Heng Samrin said that the CPP-FUNCINPEC alliance will go forward.
FUNCINPEC President Norodom Ranaridh said he and Prime Minister Hun Sen will announce about this alliance. Prince Ranariddh said Prime Minister Hun Sen will announce at an appropriate time that if FUNCINPEC wins the next election, CPP will accept him (Ranariddh) as the new prime minister. He said that if CPP wins, FUNCINPEC will accept Hun Sen as prime minister.
Opposition Sam Rainsy Party's legislator Son Chhay said this alliance will benefit political stability because the two parties always fight. However the opposition lawmakers said he wants the two parties to promote the respect for the opposition party's role, and the National Election Committee's independence for a fair election.
Cambodian political observers said the on-going CPP-FUNCINPEC alliance is a positive sign for Cambodia because it will guarantee political security for Cambodia. However they said it is a negative sign for Funcinpec party which benefitted less from this alliance in the past.
