Arthritis Pain 'Chronic' for Many: Doctor


There are five kinds of arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid, septic, gaut and reactive, a leading doctor told "Hello VOA" Monday.

Main symptoms include chronic pain and often stiffness, said Dr. Taing Tek Hong. Osteoarthritis commonly affects the hands, feet, spine, hips and knees.

Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of water on the knee, an accumulation of excess fluid in or around the knee joint.

Osteoarthritis is a chronic disorder related to but not caused by aging. Cartilage can be less resilient, and inflammation of the surrounding joint can also occur. Congenital disorders, cracking joints, joint injury, hormonal disorders and obesity, which puts extra weight on knees and other joints.
